چکیده

K. Klein, University of Toronto J. C. Santamarina, Georgia Institute of Technology The authors measured resistivity at various depths during the sedimentation of kaolinite in different ionic concentration fluids. They attributed a decreasing resistivity (increasing conductivity) with time in the low ionic concentration fluids to decreasing tortuosity. The authors suggested that the initial structure is a card-house, which changes to an aligned structure with time, thereby decreasing the tortuosity. The purpose of this discussion is to provide complementary information and an alternative hypothesis that may help with the interpretation of these types of studies.

Batch gravitational sedimentation of slurries.

We investigated the batch settling behavior of the kaolin slurry and the UK ball clay slurry at various initial solids fractions (phi(0)s) using a computerized axial tomography scanner (CATSCAN). The spatio-temporal evolutions of solids fractions in the consolidating sediments were continuously monitored. Since the interface between the sediment and the supernatant of the investigated slurries ...

Sedimentation Stability of Oil Well Cements in Directional Wells (TECHNICAL NOTE)

Unsuccessful cementing operation can jeopardize the whole well construction process, resulting in further costly and time consuming repair operations. The quality of cementing job is dependent on the cement composition and its properties. Design of cement composition is based on the available geological condition, materials and technical situation at well location. The cement properties like fl...

Morphology control of clay-mineral particles as supports for metallocene catalysts in propylene polymerization

Spray dry granulation of clay minerals was studied to obtain clay mineral base support material for metallocene supported olefin polymerization catalysts. The morphology of the granules was strongly influenced by the nature of the clay mineral itself. Because of swelling characteristics of montmorillonite, its water dispersion was highly viscous even in the low slurry concentration (< 4 wt %). ...

Aided Transport of Nano-Iron in Clay Soils Using Direct Electric Field

The influence of direct current electric fields on the possible electrokinetic delivery of nano-iron slurry in clay for the purpose of fast and effective remediation of soil contaminants has been tested. Nano-iron can be introduced to soil hydraulically in slurry form, but in tight clay soil, delivery of a uniform distribution of the slurry may be difficult to achieve for effective remediation....

Phosphorus leaching from loamy sand and clay loam topsoils after application of pig slurry

Appropriate management of animal waste is essential for guaranteeing good water quality. A laboratory leaching study with intact soil columns was performed to investigate the risk of phosphorus (P) leaching from a clay loam and a loamy sand. The columns (0.2 m deep) were irrigated before and after application of pig slurry on the surface or after incorporation, or application of mineral P, each...
